Yaki Nori sheets are produced immediately after the algae is harvested, as the umami flavor of nori is highly volatile. The algae are ground into a paste and dried in a frame. Up to 300g of fresh nori are used per sheet.
These algae can be used to create more than just Asian dishes. There are other ways to integrate them into your meal plan as well. Beyond maki sushi, you can also roll vegetables into the nori sheets and then steam them. Roll a cut-up sheet into a spring roll to make it more savory. Cut strips make a great salad topping or addition to a vegetable stir-fry.
